  • Women, starting at a young age must bind their feet together to keep them small. A man would never marry a women with large, unbound feet. "In my day, small feet were considered feminine and beautiful. If you had large, unbound feet, no man would marry you."(pg. 7,8)

Connections between the book Angkat, the Cambodian Cinderella:

chinese cinderella had may things in common with this other book
  • both daughters were unwanted.
  • the stepmother and father both hate the child.
  • the stepsiblings are treated like royalty.
  • the main person has to do all the work.
  • the main person is uncared for.
  • their parents try to get rid of them muliple times.

Ciara:
Symbol for the book, and why we chose it.

Chinese Cinderella symbol

I chose this because the main character in our book Adeline had a little baby chick that was the smallest of all the chicks they owned. Adeline and this chick had a strong connection. They both could relate to eachother. Lastly, they both had their own problems.

Adeline Yen Mah: Life story

Libby: End of the book, (pg. 195-197). This passage is when Adelines, Aunt Baba shows her a story that her mother had told her when she was little.
I liked this passage because, I thought that it was a great way to end the story, with her mothers version of Cinderella.

Patty: (pg.186) This passage/quote is when Adeline's grandfather, Ye Ye, dies. This passage made me feel very bad for her, I almost cried.
